A Scientific Seminar on Dental Amalgam Toxicity

A scientific seminar was held today for third-year students in the Department of Conservative Dentistry, under the supervision of Dr. Sanaa Mansour, entitled “Dental Amalgam Toxicity.”

The seminar provided a comprehensive overview of dental amalgam restorations, including their definition and chemical composition, with particular emphasis on mercury and its potential effects on human health and the environment. In addition, recent scientific research and studies addressing the safety of amalgam use in modern clinical practice were discussed.

The seminar also highlighted clinical and preventive aspects, along with a comparison between dental amalgam and alternative restorative materials in terms of effectiveness, durability, and long-term health implications. This contributed to enhancing students’ scientific understanding and strengthening the link between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

The lecture witnessed notable student engagement through discussions and the presentation of scientific questions, reflecting their growing interest in scientific research and contemporary topics in the field of dentistry.

This seminar is part of the college’s ongoing efforts to support scientific research and promote academic research culture among students. Such activities play a vital role in raising the academic and scientific level of students at the Faculty of Dentistry, and in preparing qualified professionals capable of keeping pace with scientific advancements and serving the community with high competence.
